Japan’s agricultural exports hit a record high of 1.2 trillion yen in 2021

Kyodo News reported on February 4, The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced on Thursday that Japan’s agricultural, forestry and aquatic products and food exports in 2021 increased by 25.6% from the previous year to reach 1.2385 trillion yen (about 68.6 billion yuan), hitting a new high for nine consecutive years.It is the first time such exports have crossed the y1,000bn mark.According to the report, in 2021, Japan exported 804.3 billion yen of agricultural products, 301.6 billion yen of aquatic products, 57 billion yen of forest products, and 75.6 billion yen of small goods.Increased shipments of scallops (frozen, etc.) to China almost doubled from the previous year to 63.9 billion yen, while beef exports to the United States rose 85.9 percent to 53.6 billion yen.By country and region, exports to mainland China topped the list for the first time since 2001, rising 35.2 per cent year-on-year to Y222.4bn.That was followed by exports to Hong Kong, which rose 6 per cent to Y219bn, and exports to the US, which rose 41.2 per cent to Y168.3bn.
